“The track is super useful, a must for every research facility manager and for others with a supporting management role within research. The interaction with the other participants and the workshopleaders, who each with their own personal experiences and stories have given me many new insights.” Anna Houben UMC, Utrecht Sequencing Facility

Do you recognize yourself in these questions?

  • How do I profile the competences of my group and the facilities and services we provide within my network and potential partners?
  • How do I ensure that my expertise can also have an impact outside of my own network?
  • Where can I create added value for society and actually contribute to solutions for societal challenges?
  • And how can I boost collaboration with private organizations?

To answer these questions, you need insight into:

  • Who are my customers?
  • How can I add value for my customers?
  • What is the (cost)price of my product or service?
  • What is a market-based price for the services I offer?
  • What do I have to take into account if I want to take an assignment?
  • How can I close a successful deal?

“The track gives insight in aspects of daily management of a facility. The track is practical of nature and you can apply the learned immediately.” Wim Timmer, UMC Utrecht, Medical technology & Clinical Physics.

With this facility track we want to give facility managers insight into leadership and entrepreneurship. We focus on experts who are responsible for managing a research facility. We train them in the field of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship teaches you to think from the perspective of your customers. It also provides insight and focus in the research and we offer you the tools and skills needed to achieve successful collaborations.

“The commercial mindset of facility track was an eye-opener for me”, Klaartje Houben, UU Faculty of Sciences, NMR facility

Good pitching, sales and negotiation techniques are an important part of the track. You get personal tips and tricks to improve your skills. At the end of the track, we challenge you to a pitch battle as a finale. We invite external companies who share their experiences with us and give feedback on your story.

The track starts on Monday 11 February 2019 and ends on Monday 15 July 2019. We start with a program of two full days. We then come together every month for a half-day workshop. We expect you to prepare the workshops in your own time. Take into account a preparation time of about 4 days in total.

“Both science and education often have conflicting interests with commerce. This track has given me tools to deal with this in an honourable, consistent way”. Hermen Bollemaat, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, Chemical Technology. Winner pitch battle facility track 2018.
